TPC Southwind (par 70, 7,288 yards, Bermuda greens) in Memphis, Tennessee, is hosting the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which is the first of three events for the FedExCup Playoffs. Only 69 players will be competing and there will be no cut. Following the FedEx St. Jude Championship. the top-50 players in the FedExCup standings will advance to the BMW Championship next week and then, the top-30 will advance to the TOUR Championship in two weeks.

TPC Southwind has been the home of the FedEx St. Jude Championship for the last four years and this course has hosted a PGA TOUR event every year since 1958. At last year’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, Justin Rose (-16) won by beating J.J. Spaun in a playoff.

Collin Morikawa ($9,300)

Morikawa is having another great season on the PGA TOUR. The Cal product has only missed two cuts in 14 starts and he has finished inside the top-10 six times. Morikawa won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and he finished solo third at the Travelers Championship in June. Morikawa then followed this up with a T18 at the Open Championship last month, which is his most recent start.

Morikawa enters the FedExCup Playoffs well-rested and he has gained at least 5.0 strokes on approach in back-to-back starts. The two-time major champion ranks second in SG APP this season, which is outstanding news for TPC Southwind, where you need to be in strong form with your irons to win. Four of the last five victors at this track have finished the event top-eight in SG APP.

Another encouraging sign is that Morikawa has gained strokes with his putter in five consecutive starts. Morikawa is always a threat to win when his flat stick cooperates and he should find himself in the mix at TPC Southwind come Sunday afternoon. Morikawa has played well at this venue in the past, never finishing worse than T26th in six starts with his best being a T5 in 2022. Among this field, Morikawa ranks ninth in strokes gained per round at TPC Southwind.

J.J. Spaun ($7,700)

Spaun has displayed huge upside at TPC Southwind. Not only did he lose to Rose in the playoff last season, but Spaun was close to winning at this track in 2022 as well. That week, he led the FedEx St. Jude Championship after each of the first three rounds, but Spaun unfortunately collapsed in the final round with an 8-over 78, dropping him all the way down to T42nd on the leaderboard.

Spaun letting two wins slip through his fingers at TPC Southwind definitely still haunts him and he should be out for redemption this week. While that 78 in 2022 cost Spaun the win, it was a rare sight for him at this course. Spaun has shot under par in 10-of-12 rounds at TPC Southwind. The 35-year-old carded a career-low 8-under 62 here in 2022 and he posted back-to-back 5-under 65s to close out last year’s FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Spaun ranks third in this field in strokes gained per round at TPC Southwind and returns to Memphis in appealing form. Spaun has made 11 of his last 14 cuts and has finished inside the top-15 six times over this span, including a win at the Valero Texas Open in April. Spaun ranks fifth in SG APP and 11th in proximity to the hole on 150-175-yard approach shots this season. 23.8% of the approach shots at TPC Southwind over the last five years have come from this distance, so Spaun contending at TPC Southwind again isn’t out of the question.

Adam Scott ($7,000)

Scott has played well at TPC Southwind in the past. The Aussie has finished T18th or better in three-of-five starts, most notably with a T5 in 2022. Scott has a 6-under 64 on his resume at TPC Southwind and ranks fourth in this field in strokes gained per round at the course.

This season, Scott has made 14-of-16 cuts and he has generated nine top-25 finishes. Scott last competed at the Open Championship in July and he looked awesome at Royal Birkdale, finishing T9th. Scott shot a 4-under 66 in the second and final rounds, and he gained strokes in every major category except around the greens.

Scott has been dialed with his irons this season, ranking ninth in SG APP. He is a sensational bargain at this $7,000 price tag, which is the cheapest Scott has ever been on DraftKings for a tournament at TPC Southwind.
