Evenko has relaxed its controversial clear-bag policy for events at Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau to allow small non-transparent bags just days after requiring ÎleSoniq festivalgoers to carry transparent ones.
Under updated rules posted ahead of this weekend’s Lasso country music festival, non-transparent bags, handbags, waist bags and fanny packs measuring up to 23 by 15 by 10 centimetres are permitted. Clear or transparent bags, handbags and backpacks can measure up to 30 by 30 by 23 centimetres.
The revised policy is also in effect for other upcoming Evenko events at Parc Jean-Drapeau, including the Vans Warped Tour and concerts by Iron Maiden and AC/DC.
The change comes little more than a week after Evenko introduced its clear-bag policy ahead of ÎleSoniq, which took place last weekend. Organizers said restrictions on the size and type of bags were intended to promote safety and speed up entry to the site.
The policy prompted concerns from attendees. Following its announcement, ÎleSoniq acknowledged the reaction in a social media post, saying it had “received feedback from several festivalgoers” and “listened to your concerns.”
Organizers made an initial adjustment before the festival, allowing hydration bags on site provided they were inspected by security staff at the entrance. Dedicated entry lines were set up for festivalgoers carrying them.
Under the latest rules, hydration packs that are not backpacks are also permitted if they are empty upon entry. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis for items required for medical reasons following inspection by security personnel.
