Over 150 of the best Junior golfers are competing in Regina and Toronto in Canadian Junior Boys and Girls championships this week
The opening round is complete at the 2026 Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship at Wascana Country Club in Regina.
Vancouver’s Thomas Xu sits alone atop the leaderboard after firing a five-under-par 67. He holds a one-shot lead over a group of seven golfers at four-under.
2025 Saskatchewan Junior champion Aricin Franklin leads the 12 Saskatchewan golfers in the field. He carded a two-under 70 and sits in a tie for 13th, three shots back of the lead.
2026 Saskatchewan Men’s Amateur champion Austin Nesbitt of Pilot Butte and Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess are both six shots off the pace after opening-round 74s.
Brady Guenther and Oliver Matyczuk of Saskatoon, Warman’s Giesbrecht and reigning Saskatchewan Junior Boys champion Ryan Mosher are all tied seven shots back after rounds of 74.
Prince Albert’s Wyatt Nelson is tied for 88th, while North Battleford’s Shae Maunula and Lucas Sturgeon are tied for 102nd at five-over.
Saskatoon’s Ethan Hunter is tied for 126th at seven-over, while Prince Albert’s Lincoln Rogers rounds out the Saskatchewan contingent in a tie for 140th after an opening-round 81.
In the Juvenile Boys Championship, Airdrie’s Charlie Strang, Burnaby’s Jeevyn Lotay and Nova Scotia’s Luke MacDougall share the lead at four-under, with a two-shot advantage.
Nesbitt and Sturgeon are also competing in the Under-16 event, sitting in ties for 22nd and 41st, respectively.
In the inter-provincial team competition, Saskatchewan, represented by Mosher, Maunula and Giesbrecht, is tied for sixth with Manitoba at four-over.
Alberta leads the team event at eight-under, with Nova Scotia second at six-under.
The second round begins Wednesday morning, with the championship continuing through Friday in Regina.
Saskatchewan golfers open Canadian Junior Girls Championship in Ontario
Four Saskatchewan golfers have completed the opening round of the 2026 Canadian Junior Girls Championship at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ontario.
Kyle’s Chloe Wills is the top Saskatchewan golfer after shooting a six-over-par 77. She is tied for 45th and sits eight shots behind the leaders at two-under.
The group at the top includes two-time defending champion Shauna Liu of Maple, Ontario, Australia’s Kirra St-Laurent, Montreal’s Zixuan Tan and Markham, Ontario’s Evelyn Ma.
Two-time defending Saskatchewan Junior champion Grace Odnokon opened with a 78 and is tied for 51st at seven-over.
Warman’s Tina Liu is tied for 64th at eight-over, while Saskatoon’s Yoyo Zhu sits tied for 95th at 11-over following an opening-round 82.
Odnokon, Liu and Zhu are also competing in the Juvenile Championship, where they sit tied for 33rd, 42nd and 64th, respectively.
Tan and Ma share the Juvenile lead at two-under. The event features golfers aged 16 and under.
Saskatchewan, represented by Wills, Odnokon and Liu, is tied for fifth in the inter-provincial team competition at 13-over, 10 shots behind Alberta, which leads at three-over.
The championship features 156 of Canada’s top junior female golfers.
The second round is set for Wednesday, with the tournament wrapping up Friday.
