A man is facing multiple charges more than a year after a fatal wrong-way crash in northeast Calgary that left a woman dead and two people seriously hurt.

The crash occurred on July 21, 2025, when a pickup truck was headig southbound in the northbound lanes of 52 Street NE.

Calgary police say the truck struck a woman in her 50s who was walking in the area. She died at the scene.

The truck then continued travelling southbound before colliding head-on with an oncoming SUV and then bursting into flames.

The SUV’s driver and passenger, a 33-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, were both rushed to hospital in critical condition. The pickup truck driver was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Following a lengthy investigation, police arrested 26-year-old Calgary resident Rami Hamdan on Tuesday. He has been charged with one count of criminal dangerous driving causing death and two counts of criminal dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Hamdan will appear in court on Aug. 28.
