A new fundraiser for Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society will see kids in Nerf-gun battles with local firefighters.
Time-slot tickets are sold for the Aug. 29 event, at Clayton Hills Golf Course and The Backyard Golf facilities on Highway 10.
The Kids VS Firefighters Event (on eventbrite.com) is organized by Krysten Guilbault and her husband, who operate Phantom Dart Crew Events, a new mobile business.
“We came up with the idea to give back to the community with an end-of-summer event, something new and different,” Guilbault said. “We’re hoping to raise at least $5,000 if we can.… Our spots are starting to fill up.”
Kids will team up and take on “local firefighter heroes in a high-energy foam dart battle,” the website says. “This is pure backyard-style action with a twist: real firefighters, big smiles and lots of laughter.”
Tickets are $25 plus fees, or $5 for spectators, in hour-long time slots.
“We have had some amazing businesses in the local community come together to provide us with additional entertainment, including a bouncy castle and face painting,” Guilbault added. “We are working to get a raffle approved and a 50/50 as well. We will also have food and other goodies on site.”
All blasters and foam darts will be provided, so kids just need to show up with comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and running shoes, ready to play.
“To follow Hasbro’s Nerf Blaster age safety guidelines, we recommend that children be at least 8 years old to participate in the foam dart battles,” the event website says. “That said, some children under 8 who are already experienced with Nerf toys may be developmentally ready. Parent discretion is advised.”
