MADISON, Ill. — World Wide Technology Raceway will take on a pivotal role in NASCAR’s championship picture in 2027, serving as the opening race of the Cup Series’ final three-event regular-season stretch before The Chase.
NASCAR announced that the Enjoy Illinois 300 will be held on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2027, positioning the Madison, Illinois, oval as the first stop in a critical three-race run that will determine the final Chase field and playoff seeding.
The weekend will also feature the return of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, which will compete in the Nu Way 225 on Saturday, Aug. 21.
With only three races remaining before the postseason begins, the Enjoy Illinois 300 will carry major implications for drivers battling for the final spots in the 16-driver Chase field. The race will begin a stretch that also includes Daytona International Speedway and Darlington Raceway, two of NASCAR’s most iconic venues.
“With only three opportunities remaining to secure a Chase berth or improve seeding, the Enjoy Illinois 300 will bring urgency, pressure and intense racing from the opening lap,” World Wide Technology Raceway owner and CEO Curtis Francois said.
Since joining the NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2022, the Enjoy Illinois 300 has become one of the sport’s most successful newer events. The race sold out during each of its first four seasons and has steadily increased in importance, moving into the NASCAR Playoffs in 2025 before now becoming a key part of the road to the postseason.
Current ticket holders will have the opportunity to renew their seats for the 2027 NASCAR weekend beginning Sept. 13, 2026, with general public ticket information to be announced later.
