Living with endometriosis and a nut allergy, Ms Murrie began developing granola recipes in her kitchen to create products that suited her needs without compromising on flavour or nutrition.

The business has since grown into a full-scale operation producing allergen-free granolas and snacks from a dedicated facility in Glenrothes.

Nakey Bakey’s products are free from all 14 major allergens, contain no added sugar and are naturally sweetened with fruit. The range is also vegan-friendly.

The company recently won Scotmid’s Scottish Favourites competition, securing a listing in Scotmid Co-op stores across Scotland.

To support the expansion, Nakey Bakey has secured a £100,000 invoice finance facility from Bank of Scotland.

The funding will help the business increase stock, boost production and manage longer payment terms from retailers.

The company also expects to create new jobs by the end of 2026.

Since rebranding in 2024, Nakey Bakey has won several awards, including Free From Product of the Year at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards and Health & Wellbeing Start-Up of the Year at the Scotland Start-Up Awards.

The business has achieved SALSA food safety accreditation and has been recognised through two parliamentary motions.

Ms Murrie said: “What began as a personal solution quickly became something much bigger, showing me that many others were looking for the same thing.

“My family and friends encouraged me to pursue it as a business, and the response since then has shown just how much demand there is for genuinely healthy, allergen-free food.”

Steven Anderson, relationship manager at Bank of Scotland, said: “Megan has built an impressive business by turning personal experience into a product range that meets growing consumer demand.

“Nakey Bakey’s expansion is a testament to that entrepreneurial vision, and we’re pleased to be supporting the business as it scales and pursues its next stage of growth.”
