Provincial police say a 22-year-old man is dead after a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle in Pickering, Ont., overnight Saturday.
In a news release Saturday morning, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said officers were called to Highway 401, between Brock Road and Westney Road, shortly before 2:30 a.m.
The man, from Scarborough, was pronounced dead at the scene after colliding with an electronic sign board inside a construction zone, the OPP said in a post to social media platform X Saturday morning.
The motorcycle was reportedly riding at a high speed, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video posted to X. The man was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries as a result, he added.
According to Schmidt, the family of the man has been notified.
Highway 401 was closed westbound at Westney Road, approaching Brock Road, for a lengthy period of time while the investigation continued, the OPP had said in an earlier post on X.
In the update Saturday, the OPP said the road has reopened.
