Chinese viewers compare ‘Ramayana’ with ‘Odyssey’
Some viewers have already placed ‘Ramayana’ alongside other major epic films. One Chinese viewer compared the upcoming movie with ‘Odyssey’ and discussed the factors that could influence the two films’ international reception. The viewer wrote, “We honestly have to wait and see if this can surpass Odyssey. Odyssey, in all its glory and criticism, already had a great deal of hype in Western countries, and even in Eastern ones. People already loved the story of Troy and Achilles, and this helped create the hype around Odyssey. The fact that Nolan directed it was also a huge factor..”
Visual style draws praise from viewers
The visual effects and artistic choices in ‘Ramayana’ have also become major talking points among Chinese viewers. One viewer argued that the movie’s aesthetics could have a stronger connection with Chinese cinema than conventional Western blockbusters. The viewer said, “I made a youtube video about this. The aesthetics and vfx of ramayana align more with chinese cinema than western which realistic and dark and muted while Chinese cinema is colourful vibrant and more about imagery than to sell complete 100 percent realism.”Another viewer highlighted the film’s colour palette and suggested that its visual approach could work particularly well with Chinese audiences. “The colour palette and tone of the film matches with big budget chinese films. From past 5 years we are taking about realistic taking, it might be Dune or Odessey. But if you see chinese films it will have the same tone of Ramayana film. Theor main target is chinese market, that’s the reason they Hired Nitish after Dangal success in china..”
