Novak Djokovic opened up about his doubts over his future and the pressure he puts on himself as he reflects on his career in his new documentary.
Novak Djokovic’s fall during his Cincinnati second-round match has raised fresh questions about the 39-year-old’s physical condition. But his recent interview for his documentary shows that the struggle is not only physical. Behind 24 Grand Slam titles and countless records, Djokovic says he still battles doubt and constantly asks himself how long he should continue.
“I cannot enjoy” despite everything he has achieved
Djokovic explained that the documentary focuses less on his trophies and more on the person behind them.
“This movie is really more about the story behind those achievements.”
He admitted that even after reaching the highest level of tennis, he does not always feel confident.
“There are days where I feel like I’m the best. There are days where I’m doubting myself a lot.”
The Serbian also revealed the pressure he puts on himself and his family.
“How long should I do this? Why am I putting myself and my family through this over and over again?”
For Djokovic, the biggest battle may still be with himself.
“The number one doubter is here and I’m trying to prove myself wrong more than anybody else.”
Djokovic wants his story to go beyond tennis
The documentary also shows a more personal side of Djokovic, including difficult moments from his career. He said those experiences helped shape him and that he does not hold a grudge over the past. Looking ahead, Djokovic hopes people remember more than his records.
“I see my legacy really expanding and going kind of beyond tennis and what I have achieved on the court.”
His message about sport is also bigger than winning matches.
“The sport has an incredible power to change the world.”
Now, with his body showing signs of strain in Cincinnati, those words feel even more significant. The champion who spent two decades pushing himself to the limit is once again facing the question he admitted he asks himself: how long can he keep going?
