A 52-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with multiple offences related to the alleged online sexual exploitation of children, York Regional Police say.
The investigation began in September 2025 after police identified a suspect who was allegedly using an online platform to communicate with and arrange meetings with individuals he believed were under the age of 16, with the alleged intent of committing sexual offences.
Investigators say the suspect used several aliases over a seven-month period, including “Scanner,” “Competentist,” “James Thomas,” “JP T” and “Confessionator.”
In May 2026, York police were notified by the Ontario Provincial Police of a separate investigation involving similar allegations and the same suspect. In June, John Thompson, 52, of Mississauga, was charged in connection with both investigations.
Thompson faces multiple charges, including making child sexual abuse and exploitation material, luring a person under 16 through telecommunications, making sexually explicit material available to a child under 18, and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
