SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After a first half stalemate in the first road test of the season, Jadyn Holdenried’s second half PK lifted No. 10 Washington past San Diego State Wednesday night, earning a 1-0 victory at San Diego Sports Deck.
Stats on the night were nearly break-even, with the home team owning a slight 11-10 advantage in total shots, with both sides placing five on frame.
In goal, Tanner Ijams came one save short of her career-high with five stops, earning her second clean sheet to start the season, her 13th in the last two seasons.
The best chance to open scoring in the opening frame went the way of the Huskies, with Alex Buck out-muscling her defender on a 50-50 ball, breaking free on the left side of the goal. However, the third year striker couldn’t keep her shot down, sending it over the bar.
The Medina, Washington, native atoned in the second half, drawing a foul in the box in the 67th minute. After review, Holdenried took the ball, bulging the back of the net for the eventual match-winner.
From there, the Dawgs were able to salt away the remaining minutes, moving to 2-0-0 on the season.
Washington makes a quick return home for its next match, hosting Montana Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. PT kickoff at Husky Soccer Stadium. The match will be available for streaming via B1G+.
