Smoke filled the air around Winnipeg’s South Point Douglas neighbourhood on Thursday as emergency crews worked to put out a fire in a boarded-up house.
The two-storey home is at the corner of Disraeli Freeway and Argyle Street, forcing fire crews to shut down northbound lanes of Disraeli, except for the median one.
In a social media post, United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg president Nick Kasper said the house was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.
He included images and video that showed flames leaping several feet into the air above the roof.
“Initial-arriving crews attempted an aggressive interior attack but were forced to withdraw due to deteriorating and unsafe building conditions,” Kasper’s post stated.
There was no information about when firefighters were called there, but Kasper said crews from Wednesday night’s shift responded and were working overtime.
