ROSES AND ROTTEN TOMATOES: Roses for access to the World Cup in Vancouver

• Roses to Surrey Memorial Hospital if they would relocate all the offices out of the two extended care buildings on site and use them exclusively for extended care. My friend’s husband was in ER and died in ER. There were no beds on the ward, and the hospice was half full of seniors waiting for a care home.
• The last World Cup game in Vancouver is now past and I want to say how impressed I was with the precision with which every phase of the operation was carried out. Being mobility restricted, I was somewhat apprehensive about how I would get to my seat, high up in the stadium. I need not have worried. After getting off the SkyTrain at Science World, a golf cart was waiting to whisk myself and my three family members off to the security gate. After clearing security, numerous wheelchairs were available, complete with a driver and guide to clear a path, ready to complete the last part of the journey. This included an elevator ride up to the fourth floor, just a few steps away from our seats. Then came another surprise when my driver said he and his guide would await me whenever I chose to leave. They must have stayed close by throughout the game to offer that assurance. Needless to say the trip out of the stadium was the exact reverse of the journey in with delivery right to the station entrance avoiding the lineup. It was a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, only made possible for me by the organizers, and I thank them sincerely for making it happen.
• Roses if the City of Surrey would have an anonymous tip line for illegal builds. There are probably hundreds (maybe thousands) more. These homeowners start building on a long weekend. when fewer bylaw officers are around. We have Crimestoppers with an anonymous tip line – why not for illegal builds?
• Roses to Surrey Police and the RCMP for capturing and arresting so many people involved in extortions. Thank you for making Surrey safer.
