A motorcyclist has died following a collision involving a transit bus in Brampton Wednesday morning.

Peel Regional Police were called to the area of Bovaird Drive East and Dixie Road shortly after 9:25 a.m. for reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a transit bus.

Police say the motorcyclist, who was in their 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the transit bus was transported to hospital. Police have not released information about their condition.

The circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been released.

Police have closed eastbound Bovaird Drive and Dixie Road while officers investigate. Drivers are being asked to use alternate routes.

The crash is the latest in a series of serious motorcycle collisions in Brampton this summer.

On Aug. 4, a motorcyclist was killed following a collision with a sedan near Sun Pac Boulevard and Queen Street East, close to Goreway Drive.

A 21-year-old motorcyclist was also killed in a Brampton hit-and-run on June 27. Police later charged a 48-year-old man with impaired driving in connection with the crash.

There were also two serious motorcycle collisions in Brampton in July. A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries following a July 7 crash near Bovaird Drive and Mississauga Road, while another motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision with a truck near North Park Drive and Nasmith Street the following day.

There is no publicly available Peel Regional Police year-to-date breakdown specifically tracking motorcycle collisions or collisions involving transit buses in Brampton.

Police have not indicated whether charges are expected in Wednesday’s collision.

This is a developing story. More information will be added as it becomes available.
