International Overdose Awareness Day: Screening of No Fixed Address in Surrey

A coalition of organizations is hosting a screening of a documentary at a Surrey library that highlights a deeply overlooked aspect of the homelessness crisis: the grief experienced after the death of a person they care about.
The screening of No Fixed Address: The White Cart Memorial will be at Surrey City Centre Library (10350 University Dr.) on International Overdose Awareness Day, which is marked each year on Aug. 31, to remember those who have died during the toxic drug crisis.
It will be from 3-5 p.m. in Library Room 120. A panel discussion on grief and homelessness will follow the film.
“The film is both a tribute and call to action,” reads the event poster. “Through the voices and stories of individuals living with unstable housing in Kelowna, the film explores what it means to grieve without a house, and how loss echoes through a community already struggling to survive.”
The film screening has been funded through contributions and in-kind support from Surrey CAT, the BC Centre for Palliative Care, the Kelowna Homelessness Research Centre through the University of British Columbia Okanagan Eminence Program, Community Action Initiative, the Vancouver Foundation, and the Surrey-North Delta Division of Family Practice and Shared Care.
The screening is free to attend, but organizers ask people to register in advance.
