The weekend is expected to start off with up to 50 mm of rain and a risk of thunderstorms in the Greater Toronto Area and across southern Ontario.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says the morning will be mainly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Oshawa and the Niagara area.
Those showers could extend into the afternoon, followed by a risk of thunderstorms.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, saying Mississauga and the GTA could see some 50 mm of local rainfall this weekend.
“Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over southwestern Ontario in the morning before moving into the Greater Golden Horseshoe in the afternoon,” Environment Canada says.
The daytime high will be around 26 C in Mississauga but could feel more like 32 C due to the humidity. The UV index will be 5 or “moderate,” the weather agency says.
Saturday night is expected to bring more showers to the GTA, with cloudy skies and a 40 per cent chance of rain. There’s a risk of more thunderstorms in the evening overnight, and the low will be around 16 C.
Looking ahead to Sunday, more showers are expected across southern Ontario during the day. The daytime high will be around 20 C. Sunday evening will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a low of 11 C, the weather agency says.
Monday is expected to bring a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of showers to Mississauga with a high of 22 C, while Tuesday will be sunny with a high of 25 C.
