Three men have been charged after police say an illegal and loaded handgun was seized during a traffic stop in Brampton earlier this month.
Peel Regional Police say officers were investigating a vehicle in the area of Cedarbrook Road and Edgewater Court around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 10.
There were three people inside the vehicle and one person allegedly provided officers with a false name before fleeing the area on foot.
Officers searched the vehicle and seized a loaded handgun with a magazine containing ammunition.
The person who fled was later located in another area and arrested, police say. Investigators subsequently learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Alberta.
Navjot Singh, 29, of Innisfail, Alta., Harkomal Singh, 29, of Brampton, and Mohobbatbir Randhawa, 23, of Brampton, have each been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and tampering with the serial number of a firearm.
Navjot Singh is also charged with obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with an undertaking.
The allegations have not been proven in court, investigators say.
The firearm from this incident is the 112th gun seized by Peel police this year, including 37 recovered during traffic stops.
