Thousands turned out at the beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island, on Saturday, for a free Maroon 5 concert thrown by a local hedge fund manager to celebrate his 60th birthday, NBC10 Boston affiliate WJAR reports.
Joseph Healey previously threw free concerts in 2006 and 2016 for his 40th and 50th birthdays, respectively. The first concert saw Sting perform on the stage set up facing the water next to Healey’s Sand Castle by the Sea, located between Narragansett’s Beach Club House and the Dunes Club, according to WJAR. Ten years later, it was Lenny Kravitz.
Saturday, it was Maroon 5 performing outside Healey’s beachfront home. Some concertgoers arrived as early as 8 a.m. to get a prime view of the stage.
“I was here for Sting and Lenny Kravitz, so this will be my third time,” Courtney McCourt told WJAR. “I think it’s wonderful he does it, he wants the people of the town to enjoy it. I think it’s a nice gesture.”
Many people are saying they can’t wait for Healey’s 70th birthday.
