A seniors centre in Killarney is receiving significant funding from the provincial government.
On Saturday, the province announced it is investing $100,000 in the Killarney New Horizons Seniors’ Centre, which offers a safe, accessible and welcoming space that promotes social connection, active living and overall well-being for older adults.
“For decades, the Killarney New Horizons Seniors’ Centre has played a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for older adults by offering programs that support physical health, mental stimulation, creativity, education and social engagement,” said Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard.
Community hub for seniors and events
The facility is a busy place offering a wide range of activities for seniors in the community. The centre also collaborates closely with community partners such as Killarney-Turtle Mountain Services for Seniors, Alzheimer Society of Manitoba and Shamrock Billiards.
The New Horizons Seniors’ Centre is also used for family gatherings, celebrations of life, staff events and training seminars because of its affordable rental rates. The facility also hosts seniors tournaments and special events from across a 150-kilometre radius.

Expansion and accessibility upgrades planned
The funds will go toward expanding the building and adding safety and accessibility features such as automatic doors, a wheelchair-accessible washroom, improved temperature control and expanded foyer space.
The New Horizons Seniors’ Centre hopes to have the expansion completed by 2027 in time to mark the facility’s 50th anniversary.
