The first incident during the Dream-Sparks game Thursday night. The individual who threw it “was immediately apprehended by arena security and arrested.” Then, Friday night, “multiple sex toys landed on the court” in the third quarter of the Sky-Valkyries game in Chicago. Players “stood on the court as arena personnel removed what appeared to be three of the items from the court.” In 2025, the WNBA endured a two-week stretch in which six sex toys were tossed onto the hardwood across six games. The group of cryptocurrency meme coin creators that claimed responsibility then “is claiming responsibility for the latest disruption.” This time, the group said that it is throwing sex toys “for a different reason, inserting itself into the debate swirling around the WNBA regarding transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.” The group said that it “will continue to interrupt games” by tossing sex toys onto the court “until the WNBA ‘defines what a woman is by biological sex’ or ‘explicitly states that only biological women can compete’ in the league” (USA TODAY, 8/21).
Sky G Natasha Cloud called the incident on Friday night “weird,” adding, “That hate is unwarranted.” Cloud: “It says more about the internal struggles of that individual than it ever will say about the collective group (they have a problem with). And the men that are throwing it, it shows that you are weak. Like, extremely weak. And it says a lot about how you feel about women” (USA TODAY, 8/22).
THE ATHLETIC cited a source as saying the individual who tossed the green sex toy onto the court during the Dream-Sparks game has been “indefinitely banned from all WNBA, NBA and affiliated league games and events.” The source mentioned that the WNBA “plans to work closely with law enforcement” to hold individuals accountable for throwing objects onto the court (THE ATHLETIC, 8/22).
