ORONO, Maine – Sacred Heart scored twice in the second half to top the University of Maine women’s soccer team, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the New Balance Soccer Complex.
The Black Bears took a 1-0 lead early in the non-conference contest. In the ninth minute, Sandrine Brault stole the ball off a defender at the top of the box and then slotted the ball home.
The Pioneers responded in the second half, scoring two goals in less than two minutes to take the 2-1 lead. Maine searched for a later equalizer but came up short.
NOTES
The Pioneers had the 10-6 lead in shots and a 4-1 lead in shots on goal.
Maine had the 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Elena Barenberg made two saves for Maine.
Maine is now 9-4-1 in the all-time series with Sacred Heart.
Sandrine Brault scored her first collegiate goal.
