While we continue to await the official announcement regarding who will play the next James Bond following Daniel Craig’s explosive exit from the role in 2021’s No Time to Die, the son of a former 007 has arrived to give us the kind of straight-to-streaming spy thriller that could fill the gap ahead of the iconic blockbuster’s long-awaited return.
With the likes of Harry Potter franchise star Callum Turner, Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden, and former Man of Steel Henry Cavill currently leading the new James Bond ranking, the real-life son of a former Bond icon joins the fray in his own 007-style spy thriller, with a first trailer and release date now confirmed.
Directed by Ben Fortune, Geoffrey Moore, the son of James Bond legend and the star of seven Bond outings from 1973 to 1985, including Live and Let Die and The Spy Who Loved Me, Roger Moore, stars as a no-nonsense MI5 agent in Knightfall, which is due to make its digital streaming debut next month. Charles Knight, an infamous spy catcher, is thrust back into action when his daughter Ros, a scientist with the only key to a stolen briefcase, becomes hunted. Inside that case: a man-made biological weapon. With deadly killers closing in, father and daughter must trust each other to prevent a homeland security catastrophe.
The footage confirms the official description of Knightfall as “a high-octane old school espionage thriller” that will remind audiences of “the action classics of the 1980s and 1990s.” Starring Ian Ogilvy (We Still Kill The Old Way) and Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (Nemesis) as the father and daughter on the run, the rest of the cast includes Robert Cavanah (Tomb Raider), Ruper Holliday Evans (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), and 80s legend Michael Paré (Streets of Fire), alongside Geoffrey Moore, who himself is no stranger to action following roles in the likes of Hard Hunted, Fit to Kill, and Fire, Ice & Dynamite, in which he starred alongside Sir Roger Moore, Knightfall marks Moore’s first feature film in 33 years.
Boasting all manner of gunplay, conspiracy, betrayal, world-ending threats, and delicious puns (“pawn takes knight”), Knightfall should at least provide some independent, low-budget action thrills while we wait to stare down a gun barrel at an all-new James Bond. Hailed as a “gritty, action-packed throwback,” that’s “reminiscent of one of the best 007 epics,” Saban Films will release Knightfall on Digital and VOD in the USA on September 11, 2027.
