Peel Regional Police have charged three men after officers seized a loaded illegal handgun during a traffic stop in Brampton. The seizure brings the number of illegal firearms seized by Peel police this year to 112.
According to a news release by Peel police, officers from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau stopped a vehicle near Cedarbrook Road and Edgewater Court at about 2:20 a.m. on Aug. 10. Police said one of three occupants provided a false name before fleeing on foot.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded illegal handgun with ammunition. The fleeing suspect was later arrested and police learned he was wanted on an outstanding Alberta warrant.
Navjot Singh, 29, of Innisfail, Alberta.; Harkomal Singh, 29, of Brampton; and Mohobbatbir Randhawa, 23, of Brampton, are each charged with:
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm
Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
Tampering with Serial Number of Firearm
Navjot Singh also faces charges of Obstruct Peace Officer and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.
