A fish and chips shop that was once ranked among the top five in the city has closed its doors after nearly a decade in Brampton.

Harbourside Fish and Chips was opened in 2017 by Dean and Helen McCormick after spending 10 years in the food service industry, and grew to become a favourite stop for locals in the Heartlake Town Centre.

The menu included the traditional plate of fish and chips, baked or grilled fish, breaded and deep-fried shrimp dishes like coconut shrimp, fried clams, crab cakes and scallops, poutines and plenty of decadent deep-fried desserts like funnel cakes.

Harbourside made such an impression when it first opened that it was added to INsauga.com’s list of the top five fish and chip shops in the city, and was also ranked on INsauga.com’s top five fish taco restaurants in Brampton.

“We have enjoyed serving the Heart Lake community and surrounding area, and have appreciated the outpouring of support throughout the years,” Harbourside Fish and Chips said in a post on Instagram on the same day it closed.

Fans of the restaurant lamented the sudden closure online, with one user calling Harbourside the “best fish in Brampton.”

“I’m so sorry to hear this, me and my sister have loved coming to Harbourside Fish and Chips, we’ll miss you,” wrote another.

News of the closure was also posted on Reddit, where some users said they will miss Harbourside while others said they preferred visiting Heritage Fish and Chips on Fisherman Drive.

“So sorry to see this place close. It was a recent discovery for us, but was absolutely top notch,” one Reddit user wrote. “Sad we won’t be able get in a final lunch.”

Harbourside Fish and Chips had a 4.5 rating on Google with over 560 reviews.
