A woman has been charged with a homicide that took place in Montreal on Thursday.

Véronique Giroux made her first appearance at the Montreal courthouse on Friday before Quebec Court Judge Nadia Bérubé. She was charged with murder and will remain detained for the time being. The case returns to court in November.

Giroux was charged with the first-degree murder of Jean-Christophe Desrosiers, a man who was gunned down in Plateau-Mont-Royal on Thursday. The victim, who reportedly has ties to street gangs, was shot in broad daylight inside a white pickup truck. He was declared dead after being brought to a hospital. Shortly after the shooting, a 17-year-old male was arrested as a suspect.
