Plus: dangerous feed zones and two guys at UAE who really don’t like each other and will co-lead the team at the Vuelta a España.
Hello, everyone. Welcome back to The Secret Pro column. It’s been a few weeks since the Tour de France and I’ve had time to digest what was a pretty eventful race with lots of intrigue.
The first thing to say is that, yeah, Tadej Pogačar really was pretty pissed off throughout the race – it wasn’t just an act. I talked about his attitude a bit in my last column, and how he’s not as well liked in the bunch as people might think, but I’ve never really seen him like he was at the Tour this year.
The Secret Pro: Pogačar’s air of arrogance
The peloton’s feelings on Tadej Pogačar, an altitude camp downhill race, and why no one wants to follow Primož Roglič on a descent.
I think he was annoyed generally with how the Tour was going, and with Visma’s tactics especially. All those attacks early on, making his days stressful. He knew early on he was going to win and he wanted to get it over and done with, he wasn’t having fun anymore and I can imagine he just wanted to go home. He was physically able to win more stages, but in the final week he was just so mentally knackered. This is a hard sport and being Pogi would be even harder after a couple years I think.
Primož Roglič was interesting for another reason. He made headlines with his “I don’t give a fuck” quote, and he really didn’t. I’ve rarely seen so few fucks given by any guy at the Tour, let alone a team leader.
