The city has been recognized with an award for a program that uses technology to make Brampton’s parks more accessible and welcoming for visitors.
It’s called the Smart Parks program, and is designed to give residents easier access to information and ensure the city’s public spaces are well-maintained, giving visitors opportunities to enjoy recreation amenities close to home.
The program is made up of multiple initiatives like the Grass Maintenance Tracking System, Robotic Lawn Mower Program and Parks and Recreation Construction Map among others, and was recognized by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) earlier this month with the Peter J. Marshall Municipal Innovation Award.
The award is for municipal governments that demonstrate excellence in innovation to improve capital or operating efficiency, and “generate effectiveness through alternative service delivery initiatives and partnerships.”

AMO received a record-breaking number of submissions this year for the award, but Brampton’s Smart Parks Initiative stood out from the pack and was one of three municipalities to win the 2026 Peter J. Marshall Municipal Innovation Award.
Data from the city shows the Smart Parks initiatives are “delivering measurable results,” like the Equip Sport Locker Program which launched this year and saw more than 1,300 reservations and 4,000 uses in its first week.
The Grass Maintenance Tracking System sees some 12,000 online views during peak season, while the Parks and Recreation Construction Map has had approximately 8,000 online interactions since it was launched, the city says.
“Through Smart Parks, we are using technology and innovation to make a meaningful difference in residents’ everyday experiences while making the best use of city resources,” Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement.
