NASCAR San Diego Earns Second Tour as Military Base Street Race Returns in 2027 – Speedway Digest

SAN DIEGO — NASCAR will return to Naval Base Coronado in 2027 after a successful debut that introduced stock car racing to one of the most unique venues in motorsports.

Officials announced Tuesday that NASCAR San Diego Weekend presented by Anduril will return July 30-Aug. 1, 2027, bringing the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series back to the streets of Naval Air Station North Island.

The event’s 2026 debut sold out and transformed the military installation into a 3.4-mile, 16-turn street course known as the Qualcomm Circuit. Set against the backdrop of San Diego Bay and the Birthplace of Naval Aviation, the track quickly became one of NASCAR’s most distinctive venues.

“What we experienced this year, the incredible racing, the energy from our fans and the partnership with the U.S. Navy and the San Diego community, showed just how special this event can be,” NASCAR San Diego President Amy Lupo said.

The 2027 announcement goes beyond next year’s race weekend. NASCAR and the Department of War also revealed plans for a rotating military-base street race concept beginning in 2028. Under the proposal, the event would move to different U.S. military installations in future years, expanding NASCAR’s reach while highlighting service members and military communities nationwide.

“Our vision is bigger than a single race or location,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said. “By bringing this event to different military installations in the years ahead, we can reach more service members across the country and build an enduring tradition.”

The Cup Series race is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 1, 2027, with live coverage on TNT, truTV and HBO Max. The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will race on Saturday, July 31, with coverage on The CW and ESPN App.

Naval Base Coronado leaders praised the return, pointing to the event’s ability to connect motorsports fans with the military community while showcasing the Navy’s mission on a national stage.

The weekend will again feature Navy Community Night on July 30, offering sailors and Coronado residents free access to practice, qualifying and special interactive events celebrating both naval heritage and NASCAR competition.

Anduril returns as entitlement sponsor of the Cup Series race, while United Rentals remains the title partner for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series event. Qualcomm Technologies, Red Bull and Pala Casino Spa Resort also continue their support of NASCAR San Diego.
