The 14-candidate mayoral race in Mississauga has received plenty of attention as voters prepare to cast their ballots in the 2026 municipal election slated for Oct. 26.

Not to be forgotten, a total of 75 candidates — among them nine incumbents — are vying for city council seats in Mississauga’s 11 wards.

With current city councillors Alvin Tedjo (Ward 2) and Dipika Damerla (Ward 7) entered in the mayoral contest, that means at least two new faces will join Mississauga council for its next term to begin later this year.

Not surprisingly, those two wards also feature the largest fields of candidates in the upcoming election — 17 people are vying for the Ward 7 seat while 14 hopefuls will do battle in Ward 2 (see names of all candidates below).

Ward 7 includes the south-central part of Mississauga and is anchored by Cooksville while Ward 2 is comprised of areas in the city’s southwest that include the neighbourhoods of Clarkson and Lorne Park.

Ward 5, which includes the Malton area and is historically among the most hotly contested races in the city during election years, offers 10 candidates from which to choose, including incumbent Natalie Hart.

Candidate nominations closed this past Friday, so the mayoral and council races are now set.

The two highest-profile mayoral candidates — the current mayor, Carolyn Parrish, and her predecessor, Bonnie Crombie — are joined in the contest by Tedjo, Damerla and 10 others of varying experience in the realm of political campaigning.
