Man was arrested as he entered Sudbury on Aug. 23, followed by a police search of a downtown residence

In arresting a Mississauga man suspected of drug trafficking in Sudbury Aug. 23, Greater Sudbury Police seized cocaine with about $50,000 in street value and a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

Police said the Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the man as he entered Sudbury. Investigators subsequently executed a search warrant at a downtown residence associated with the accused.

A search of the accused after his arrest resulted in the seizure of:

• 500 grams of cocaine

• One loaded Ruger semi-automatic handgun

• Four cell phones

• $3,000 in Canadian currency

A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of:

• $500 in Canadian currency

• Digital scales

• Packaging materials

• Cutting agents

The estimated street value of the seized cocaine is approximately $50,000.

The 36-year-old man was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

• Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition

The accused attended bail court on August 24 to answer to the charges.

This investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team.
