OK, Desolation Sound is a beautiful spot for a vacation, and we highly recommend it. But it seems like a striking choice for one of professional basketball’s most coveted stars to pick for a holiday — until you realize a little bit of privacy means everything to a couple who can’t escape the spotlight.
Stephen has admitted in multiple interviews that relentless attention has been insufferable at times. He called one of his first experiences navigating an airport with his wife and new baby as one of the “worst experiences of his life,” in an interview with The Athletic.

Stephen is currently the NBA’s highest-paid player, earning an eye-watering $62.59 million salary, according to Basketball Reference. In other words, a place with clean coastal air and not-so-many people is the perfect place to “get away from it all.”

The Currys spent some time kayaking, fishing and oyster harvesting, as well as plenty of goofing off. If you follow them on social, they are a pretty fun couple, and they’ve been together for an impressive 18 years. They met as teens in a church youth group (awe).
Desolation Sound actually isn’t that far from Vancouver, although you can’t exactly drive there. The journey requires some water transfers, but once you arrive, you have an outdoor playground with a marine park featuring over 60 kilometres of shoreline, fit for NBA royalty (see what I did there?)
