A Brampton man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping one woman in Mississauga and attempting to kidnap another woman just two days later.
Diavion Henningham was 22 when the two incidents happened in May 2021, beginning with an encounter involving a woman in Mississauga.
On May 21, 2021, Peel Regional Police reported that a 32-year-old woman was walking near Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue West when a man approached her and asked to use her cellphone.
The woman handed over the phone, and the man then offered her a ride, which she accepted.
Police said the man drove in the opposite direction of where the woman was expecting to go and assaulted her while preventing her from getting out of the vehicle.
She eventually managed to escape in the area of Godwick Drive and Atwood Lane.
Henningham was arrested the following day and initially faced charges related to forcible confinement and robbery.
But the case did not end there.
Just two days after the first incident — and after Henningham had been arrested and released on conditions — another woman was approached in a North York shopping plaza.

According to the earlier police account, investigators from Peel and Toronto police linked the second incident to the same man. He was accused of asking the woman to use her cellphone before attempting to force her into a vehicle.
A struggle followed, and the woman was able to escape after a passerby intervened.
Henningham was arrested again and charged in connection with the second incident.
The two cases eventually proceeded through the courts, with Henningham pleading guilty to kidnapping and attempted kidnapping in September 2025.
He was sentenced in August 2026 by Superior Court Justice James Stribopoulos.
The timing of the two offences was a significant factor in the sentencing. The attempted kidnapping occurred only two days after the first incident and after Henningham had already been arrested and released in connection with the earlier case.
The court also heard that both women continued to experience psychological effects from what happened.
Henningham had no prior criminal record at the time of the offences.
The case brings an unusual and troubling sequence of events to a close: an alleged kidnapping in Mississauga, an arrest and release, and then another alleged abduction attempt involving a different woman only days later.
Henningham is now serving his prison sentence.
