York police say they have set up a command post for a missing vulnerable person in Markham, Ont., Friday.
In a post to social media platform X, York Regional Police said 28-year-old Andrella was last seen Friday overnight, between 2 and 4 a.m., in the area of Highway 7 E. and Birchmount Avenue.
She is described as being five-foot-eight-inches with shoulder length black hair. She may be wearing a hijab and black glasses, as well as possibly carrying a black bag, according to York police.
Const. James Dickson told CBC Toronto she may be wearing white running shoes.
York police and the family are concerned for her well-being.
“Her family says this is very much out of character,” he said Friday. “We have no indication of where she would have gone.”
There are many buildings in the area with multiple stories as well as shopping centres and green space, making it difficult for officers to search, according to Dickson.
A lot of ground to cover: police
“There’s a lot of ground for officers to have to try and cover,” Dickson said, adding drone operators have been deployed to the large area. “As a result, we do have a lot of resources that are dedicated to this right now that are out looking for Andrella.”
In Friday’s post, York police said the command post was set up in the area of Highway 7 and Birchmount Road. Residents and motorists should expect a heavy police presence, but there should not be any traffic disruptions, York police added.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
“Even if it’s a piece [of information] that helps us know exactly what she’s wearing,” Dickson said.
