The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are set to take on the Montreal Alouettes at home, a place where Winnipeg has not done well this year. And despite their recent results, Winnipeg is once again keeping their same depth chart which baffles some people. Kelly still at safety, Kramdi out…people are wondering why there are not any changes.

So the question for me is if the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be up to the task to compete against and actually beat a very good Montreal team.

Once again this week, none of the CFL writers are picking the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Unfortunately, all the CFL writers got a correct last week with not picking Winnipeg, will the same thing be true this week?

Let’s take a look at the depth charts

Are They Better?

The next question to ask is if the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are better or really the same as their 5-5 record. There is a thing out there that says you are as good as your record says you are.

And well that is technically true it is not always actually true. It’s really at the end of the season that we know for sure if a team is better than the record at any point in the season.

So what about these Winnipeg Blue Bombers are they a 0.500 team? At the end the season will they be better than 0.500 or maybe worse than the record indicates?

When answering that question, I do not want to hear about who they played who they have not played and who they have yet to play. I am only asking if their current record indicates their end of season regular season standings.

Personally, I am not sure. A couple of weeks ago I wrote about how the Bombers might have less than 10 wins in a season for many seasons.

Keys To The Game:
It has been a while since we have done keys to a game and it is actually really tough in 2026 to put together a keys for a Blue Bombers win.

Often we would say it is winning the turnover battle. But last week they won the turnover battle 3-2, and lost the game.

So then we might say it is starting off quick. But last week the Winnipeg Blue Bombers did start off quick with over 300 yards of offence in the first half, and still lost the game.

We may even safer Winnipeg the kid at the game is going to be run the ball. But even that has turned out not to be a great predictor of success.

So here is my one and only key to the game for a Bombers victory… finished, drives with touchdowns and not field goals.

Sorry, he is wrong. The Bombers do not need more “sustained drives”. They need to finish drives with touchdowns! Sure it’s great that Castillo has the record in the CFL for the most 50+ yard field goals. But actually rather he didn’t hold the record, or at least not acquire the record the way he did.

Then do it! Talk is cheap!!

On one hand, it’s really nice to have a field goal kicker that you can count on to get your points in areas of the field, where other teams should punt.

On the other hand, it seems to make the Winnipeg Blue Bombers coaches kick field goals because they know they’re a sure three points as opposed to gamble extend drives and get touchdowns. And that has been in the Achilles’ heel for the Bombers for at least this season.

Final Thoughts:
The Winnipeg, Blue Bombers, and the Montreal Alouette both have a lot to play for.

With a Montreal win and Hamilton lost Montreal not only clinch’s postseason spot but also a postseason home game.

As for the farmers, they are playing for a chance to keep their postseason hopes alive. Currently sitting in fourth place in the west and five and five their fate is not guaranteed yet they are also not certainly doomed.

They have a lot of football to play and they could control their own destiny, but they need to start winning now.
