Residents are encouraged to report bear sightings and conflicts to the Conservation Officer Service (COS) at 1-877-952-7277.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are advising residents to exercise caution following multiple bear sightings along Pleasant Valley Road.
Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, confirmed police received several reports of a bear in the 2300 block of Pleasant Valley Road on Friday, Aug. 28.
“Residents and anyone in the area are asked to be aware, keep their distance, and not approach or try to interact with the animal if they see it,” Terleski said, who added that the animal has not shown aggressive behaviour.
The BC Conservation Officer Service has been notified and is aware of the sightings, though police noted it is currently unknown if the bear remains in the area.
