Welcome to Wrestling Inc.’s results for “WWE SmackDown” on August 28, 2026, coming to you from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada!

Tatum Paxley will be competing in her first match as a member of the WWE main roster as she collides with Michin in what will mark Michin’s first “SmackDown” match since taking part in a tag team match on the July 31 edition of the show. After Paxley’s newfound friend Alexa Bliss told her tag team partner Charlotte Flair that she had invited Paxley to a brunch during last Friday’s episode of “SmackDown”, Michin and her allies Jade Cargill and B-Fab interrupted the trio before Michin subsequently challenged Paxley to tonight’s match.

Interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green will be joining forces with Tiffany Stratton to take on The Irresistible Forces’ Nia Jax and Legend in a women’s tag team match. Moments after Legend defeated Stratton in singles competition last Friday, Legend and Jax continued to beat down Stratton until Green came to her aid with a kendo stick in hand in order to force The Irresistible Forces to back down.

Jacy Jayne will be putting her Women’s United States Championship on the line as she defends against Paige. The Women’s United States Championship marks the first title that Jayne has won as a member of the WWE main roster, and tonight would also mark her first defense of the Women’s United States Championship since dethroning the aforementioned Stratton as titleholder on the August 14 episode of “SmackDown”.

Additionally, CM Punk will be making an appearance on tonight’s show after he retained his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens last Friday thanks to interference at the hands of Owens’ longtime friend and rival Sami Zayn. Cody Rhodes also has something on his mind to share before he faces Randy Orton at WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6.

We are live! The show kicks off with a video recapping the Undisputed WWE Championship match between CM Punk and Kevin Owens last Friday.

Michael Cole and Corey Graves then greet audiences at home as Kevin Owens makes his way to the ring.

We Hear From Kevin Owens

Owens talking in the ring

WWE/Netflix

Owens says this was not the way he hoped to come back to Ottawa, then says he’s lost many WWE championship matches in the last 12 years. He says none felt as bad as losing his Undisputed WWE Championship match against CM Punk last Friday, then says when he heard he was cleared to get back in the ring, he did that as soon as he could. He says he got back into the ring in 9 days instead of the 4 weeks he was originally told, then says he wanted to win the Undisputed WWE Championship in front of other Canadians.

Owens says that he knew his parents could be in the crowd last Friday and recalls telling fans that his mother was rushed to the hospital in critical condition two years ago. He says while she’s fine now, travelling became harder for her but her and his father still made it to Toronto. He says Sami Zayn made sure that he wouldn’t win his Undisputed WWE Championship match, but says he can’t forgive what Zayn did this time for taking away an opportunity to win the Undisputed WWE Championship in front of his parents and beat Punk. He says he’ll deal with Zayn when the time comes, but says everyone knows that he had Punk beat last Friday. He says Punk got lucky, but they aren’t done with one another yet.

Punk makes his way to the ring as Nick Aldis tries to stop him as he makes it clear he’s fine with fighting Owens again, but GUNTHER’s music hits and he makes his way out. GUNTHER says Owens and Punk hate one another so much because they see themselves in the other, then says he’s at ringside to remind Owens and Punk of what matters now. He says he’s glad Owens’ mother is okay, but Owens didn’t kick out on Friday.

Finn Balor’s music hits and he makes his way out. He says Owens, Punk, and GUNTHER forgot about someone, then says everyone is tired of GUNTHER’s act and Owens already had his opportunity. He says the line for an Undisputed WWE Championship match starts with him, but Aldis intervenes to make an Undisputed WWE Championship Triple Threat Number One Contenders Match official for later tonight.

We then head backstage, where Tiffany Stratton makes sure Chelsea Green is good to wrestle tonight with 30 days to get healthy. Green assures Stratton that she is.

Back at ringside, The Irresistible Forces make their way out. Stratton and Green follow.

Green takes down Legend and celebrates with Stratton, then lands a double shotgun dropkick on Nia Jax (who has tagged in on her side) with Stratton. Jax lands a headbutt on Green, but Stratton tags back in.

Back from the break, Legend lands a chokeslam on Stratton and goes for a pin. Green breaks the fall, but Jax sends Green’s broken nose bouncing off her knee. Officials check on Green outside the ring as Legend wears down Stratton with a Bear Hug, but Jax tags back in and charges at Stratton.

Stratton sends Jax crashing into the corner as Green is still being checked on the outside. Legend tags in and cinches in another Bear Hug on Stratton, then tags out to Jax. Legend keeps the hold in on Stratton and Jax looks to land a leg drop on her, but Stratton fights her way out.

Officials help Green to the back, but Green decides to stay and fight. She tags in and sends Jax crashing out of the ring with a kick, then ascends to the top rope and lands a crossbody on Jax outside of the ring. She dumps her back inside and looks to connect with Unprettier on Jax, but Jax fights her off.

Legend sends Stratton crashing into one of the barricades shoulder first, and Jax lands a Samoan Drop on Green. She follows it up with an An-Nia-Lator for the win.

Winners: The Irresistible Forces

We then head backstage, where Danhausen proposes being “SmackDown” Employee of the Month to Nick Aldis. GUNTHER crashes the meeting to ensure it’s really a Triple Threat Number One Contenders Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship, and Aldis confirms that it is.

Back at ringisde, Paige makes her way out. Fatal Influence follows.

Jayne rolls out of the ring, but Paige lands a blockbuster to her off the ring apron and dumps her back inside. Reid then levels Paige with a kick on the outside while the referee is looking away.

Paige pins Jayne, but Jayne kicks out and rocks Paige with a superkick. Paige looks to cinch in the PTO on Jayne, but Jayne avoids it and sets up for a Ram-Paige. Reid hops up onto the ring apron, but Paige takes her out and sends Henley crashing off the ring apron. This opens Jayne to roll up Paige for the win.

Winner (and still): Jacy Jayne

After the match, Nikki Bella blindsides Paige from behind. She rains down right hands on her, then delivers a spear to Paige and fires off more right hands on her before following it up with a Rack Attack 2.0 on Paige.

We then head backstage to a conversation between Cody Rhodes and Finn Balor.

We then head elsewhere backstage and see Trick Williams and Lil Yachty discuss the latter’s upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event match against Baron Corbin before Corbin confronts Williams.

Back at ringside, Cody Rhodes makes his way out.

We Hear From Cody Rhodes

Rhodes speaking inside the ring

WWE/Netflix

Cody asks Ottawa what they want to talk about, then says he wants to talk about Randy Orton. He says as much as he would like to beat Orton tonight, but he doesn’t know if that would accomplish killing the “Legend Killer”. He recalls Orton looking to get his 15th World Championship, but says if anyone were to break the actual record of 18 World Championships, it would’ve been Orton. He says when Orton starts going up, he screws up and says when others were let go, Orton got do-overs.

Rhodes says Orton screwed up again by getting between himself and the Undisputed WWE Championship, then says Sunday Night’s Main Event will be him killing the “Legend Killer”.

Orton’s music hits and he makes his way out. He says if Rhodes wants to talk about accountability, he had none in his early career and made a lot of bad decisions as Rhodes had the driver’s seat. He questions if Rhodes is at a cross roads and says he would punch him in the face if he was Rhodes. He says after his 100 day post-WrestleMania vacation, he decided to come back at this year’s WWE SummerSlam to make sure that Rhodes didn’t dethrone Punk as Undisputed WWE Championship.

Orton brings up Rhodes’ dead dog Pharaoh, then says Rhodes’ family and friends will see him beaten at Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia. He asks Rhodes if his mother or wife will be there, but Rhodes says he knows what Orton is doing and he knew that Orton would. He says he’s counting the days until Sunday Night’s Main Event when they find out if Orton is a generational Superstar like Dusty Rhodes or a first class crew up like “Cowboy” Bob Orton. He says he’ll see Orton in Atlanta as Rhodes stalks Orton from behind and refuses to clock him as per Nick Aldis’ previous no-touch clause.

We then head to a backstage verbal confrontation between Rey Fenix and Ricky Saints. Saints demands an AAA Cruiserweight Championship match from Fenix, but Fenix declines to give him one.

Back at ringside, Michin, B-Fab, and Jade Cargill make their way to the ring. Tatum Paxley, Alexa Bliss, and Charlotte Flair follow.

Paxley sends Michin crashing off the ring apron with a shotgun dropkick and lands a springboard moonsault on Michin outside of the ring, then celebrates with Bliss and Flair.

Back from the break, Michin jams her knee into the back of Paxley’s neck. She jams her knees into Paxley’s spine and cinches in a Bow and Arrow submission hold on her, but Paxley escapes and delivers a step-up enzuigiri to Michin. She rocks her with a second one from outside the ring through the middle rope, but Michin lands a sit-out powerbomb on Paxley and sets up for a Styles Clash. Paxley escapes and lands a back body drop on Michin, then connects with a rolling kick and follows it up with Cemetery Drive for the win.

Winner: Tatum Paxley

We then head backstage, where Jackie Redmond catches up with Blake Monroe about her attack on Giulia last Friday ahead of their scheduled match. Giulia appears out of nowhere and slaps Monroe, then sends her crashing into a nearby garage door. Officials pry Giulia off Monroe.

We then head over to a video from MFT and Haku, who put Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki on notice.

We then head over to a conversation between Damian Priest and R-Truth, where Priest says losing the WWE Tag Team Championship may mean it’s time for himself and Truth to break up. The War Raiders interrupt the pair to confront the pair, but Truth tells Ivar and Erik that they can put the AAA World Tag Team Championship against himself and Priest in Mexico City, Mexico on the September 11 episode of “SmackDown”. The War Raiders agree.

Back at ringside, Kevin Owens makes his way out. GUNTHER and Finn Balor follow.

Balor intercepts Owens with a Sling Blade, then ascends to the top rope. Owens catches Balor with a right hand and joins him on the ropes, but GUNTHER pulls Owens off and levels him with a clothesline.

GUNTHER knocks Balor off the ropes, then cinches in a sleeper on Owens. Balor breaks the hold with a Coup De Grace to both men off the top rope, then catches GUNTHER with his signature elbow drop and lands a shotgun dropkick on him to send him crashing into the corner of the ring.

Balor ascends back up to the top rope and delivers a Coup De Grace to GUNTHER, then goes for a pin. Sami Zayn pulls Balor out of the ring to break the fall, then dumps him over the announce desk. Owens catches GUNTHER with a Stunner back inside the ring and pins him as a second referee runs out, but Zayn levels the second referee at the bottom of the entrance ramp.

CM Punk’s music hits and he runs out to the ring. He sends Zayn crashing into the barricade and tells him that what he’s doing is “justice”, then continues to beat down Zayn and looks to hit him with his Undisputed WWE Championship belt.

Zayn slides into the ring and Punk follows him, but Owens meets Punk with several right hands. Zayn hits Owens and Zayn with the Undisputed WWE Championship belt, but GUNTHER looks to cinch in a sleeper on him. Zayn clocks GUNTHER with the Undisputed WWE Championship belt and hits Punk with it as well, then stands tall over all four men holding up the Undisputed WWE Championship belt in the ring as the referees are both down on the outside and the show goes off the air.

Winner (and new Number One Contender): N/A
