A female hiker died on Tent Ridge in Kananaskis Country. Emergency services located her Monday, police said.
RCMP say they responded at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday to help Kananaskis Mountain Rescue in searching for the woman. Canmore RCMP’s canine unit was part of the search and paramedics were also called.
Const. Sandra Geiger said the hiker was located the next day. Police said the death isn’t suspicious and the chief medical examiner’s office was determining the cause of death. The woman’s age and where she was from won’t be released, police said.
It’s the fifth hiking-related death since June in Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country. It’s the first death on Tent Ridge since 2016.

The summer hike has grown in popularity over the past six years. According to statistics obtained by CBC News in an access to information request, Tent Ridge saw an estimated 8,560 hikers in 2019. In 2025, that had grown to 20,425.
Between 2019 and 2025, it saw an estimated yearly average of 14,528 hikers.
From 2017-25, Kananaskis Mountain Rescue received 49 calls in the area of Tent Ridge ranging from hikers being overdue to broken ankles and minor injuries.
