As the whole world is talking about a certain other rainbow jersey, good news, sports fans: you’re going to be able to see Eve Buczkowski’s rainbow jersey in action soon.

The Talbotville, Ont., rider won the junior women’s points race at the junior track world championships in Belgium, earning Canada a gold medal and herself a world champion’s jersey.

Rainbow debut

Now that jersey will make its way back to the Mattamy National Cycling Centre, where Buczkowski has spent the past several years racing and training with Milton Revolution Racing.

Eve Buczkowski on being world champ: ‘I’m still in disbelief’

For Martin Honsberger, a coach and sports director with Milton Revolution Racing, seeing one of the team’s riders win a world title was exciting. But it wasn’t exactly a shock.

“A Canadian winning a world championship in a European-dominated sport is always a very pleasant surprise. But shocking? Not really,” Honsberger said. “We’ve seen how hard she works, and we’ve seen the progression.”

Buczkowski’s progression

Honsberger has worked with Buczkowski for about four years and says the competitive drive that took her to the rainbow jersey has been there from the beginning.

“The drive to find the finish line first has always been there, it’s who she is,” he said.

Buczkowski’s world title capped an impressive week in Belgium. Earlier in the championships, she helped Canada’s junior women’s team pursuit squad set a new national record. Canada qualified second behind Great Britain in the team pursuit before eventually finishing fourth.

The points race gold added another major result to what has already been a strong 2026 season.

Buczkowski won eight medals at the Canadian junior track championships earlier this year, including gold in the team pursuit, and has also spent plenty of time racing on the road.

Her season has included some great rides at Tour de l’Abitibi Femmes and Coupe de l’Avenir, along with strong racing in Europe.

For Milton Revolution, though, the significance of Buczkowski’s victory goes beyond the result itself.
“Having a Milton rider win a world championship is huge, we are all so excited for her,” Honsberger said. “We have been fortunate to have some incredible athletes choose us. Great athletes and great people.”

Honsberger said the team’s supportive environment has been an important part of Buczkowski’s development. He also pointed to some of his favourite moments from the past two years. And not necessarily her victories, but the times she put her teammates first.

On Buczkowski’s strong team spirit

“Some of my favourite Eve moments over the past two years have been watching her selflessly support teammates,” he said. “She’s a true champion.”

That makes seeing the rainbow jersey hanging at Milton’s velodrome particularly meaningful.

“Surreal is a great word to use,” Honsberger said. “I can’t wait to see it in action at the Mattamy Cycling Centre.”

And he hopes Buczkowski’s jersey becomes more than just a reminder of what she has accomplished.

“We hope it inspires the next generation of young female cyclists and shows them what is possible,” he said. “That will be special.”
