Tommy DeVito did everything he could.
It still might not be enough to avoid getting cut by the New York Giants, but he certainly made a case that he belongs in the NFL.
On Thursday night in the Giants’ final game of the preseason, DeVito played three drives and led the Giants to three touchdowns.
He was a remarkable 15-for-17 passing for 184 yards and three scores.
“There is a spot for him in this league,” wrote ESPN’s Jordan Raanan on X.

The problem for DeVito is that his spot might not be with the Giants.
They have a crowded QB depth chart by design.
Just this offseason, New York signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston before trading back into the first round to take Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss at No. 25 overall.
There’s pretty much no chance any of those guys get left go.
That leaves the fan favorite also known as Tommy Cutlets as the prime cut candidate.

DeVito is worthy of a roster spot somewhere, though, like Raanan wrote.
Preseason numbers aren’t everything, but he has had flashes in NFL regular season games, too.
Other teams surely will turn on the tape from Thursday night to see if DeVito is a guy they want on their roster if he gets let loose.
Cutdown day to 53-man rosters is Tuesday, so DeVito’s name could pop up in a trade before then, or he could be a popular target for a new contract if the Giants indeed cut ties with him.
Tommy Cutlets definitely belongs somewhere in the NFL.
