Air Canada is warning passengers travelling through Toronto on Monday (Aug. 31) that thunderstorms and resulting air traffic control restrictions could disrupt flights throughout the day.
The airline has issued travel alerts for both Toronto Pearson airport (YYZ) and Billy Bishop Toronto City airport (YTZ), advising that flights may be affected by forecast thunderstorms and subsequent air traffic control initiatives.
The alerts are in effect all day Monday at both airports.
Flexible rebooking policy in effect
In response to potential disruptions, Air Canada has revised its ticketing policy, allowing customers travelling on affected flights to change their bookings without penalty, subject to availability.
Passengers whose flights are affected can retrieve their bookings online and make eligible changes free of charge.
Customers who booked through Air Canada Vacations are being advised to contact the tour operator directly at 1-800-296-3408.
The airline is also urging passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. Travellers can also obtain updates through Air Canada’s automated flight information system at 1-888-422-7533.
The alerts come as thunderstorms are forecast to move through the Toronto area, with the potential for air traffic control measures to compound weather-related disruptions at Canada’s busiest aviation hub.
“Air Canada is monitoring the situation closely and is working to get you on your way safely and as quickly as possible,” the airline stated.
