A couple of American League East teams are making some moves for the stretch run.
Both players were placed on outright waivers on Sunday — by the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals, respectively — giving teams across MLB the chance to claim them. They’ll be eligible for the post-season should the Yankees and Orioles secure their spots.
Robert is owed a little more than $5 million guaranteed for the remainder of the season and has a $20-million option on his contract for 2027, while Schreiber is set to become a free agent after this season.
Robert landed with the Mets in an off-season trade with the Chicago White Sox, but he has battled injuries and inconsistency in what has amounted to a disappointing campaign in Queens. Over 56 games, the seven-year MLB veteran is slashing .229/.310/.410 with 10 homers and two stolen bases.
Despite the tempered season-long line, Robert has shown some life as of late, hitting six home runs and carrying a 1.015 OPS over his last 17 games.
Schreiber, meanwhile, has a 3.65 ERA and 36 strikeouts through 49.1 innings out of Kansas City’s bullpen this season.
The 32-year-old right-hander has been a consistent relief option over the past five seasons. Since 2022, he has thrown at least 45 innings in each season and has never seen his ERA climb above 3.86.
