Portnoy believes Clark’s run to the award should be uncontested based on her recent performances, but the competition remains fierce.

Portnoy appeared on ‘Wake Up Barstool’ for the ‘Stock Up Stock Down’ segment, where he said the stock in Clark should be up while explaining why she is the WNBA’s 2026 MVP.
“Caitlin Clark is the MVP… The numbers and what she has been doing for the last month… There are crazy stats like how nobody in the history of the league has scored 30 with double-digit assists… She’s a double-double machine. The league has never seen anything like it. She is dominating this sport, just like we thought she would. She is the MVP of the WNBA. “
Portnoy read out multiple stat lines from Clark’s last 10 games, including the back-to-back 30-point and 10-assist performances she had against the Sky (37 PTS, 10 AST) and Sun (34 PTS, 12 AST).
Clark has averaged 24.9 points and 9.3 assists over this span, as the Fever secured their spot in the 2026 WNBA Playoffs while still being in contention to push for the No. 3 seed after the FIBA break.

One of Clark’s rivals is in the backcourt with her, as Kelsey Mitchell is among the leading contenders with her 25.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game average.

The biggest rival is the woman who has already held this award four times and has won it the last two times, Aces superstar A’ja Wilson.

Wilson’s averages of 26.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists are hard to beat for Clark, especially with Mitchell taking votes away, and Wilson’s Aces having a better record than the Fever at the moment.
Lynx rookie Olivia Miles is also mentioned as a contender, averaging 19.7 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.6 rebounds in her rookie season, shouldering the load for the league-leading Lynx.
The race will come down to the final few games of the regular season, so it’ll be interesting to see if Clark can assert her control and win this race.
