Manitobans can visit provincial parks without paying vehicle permit fees this Labour Day long weekend.
The Manitoba government says provincial park vehicle permits will not be required from Sept. 4 to 7, giving campers, hikers, paddlers, and families an opportunity to enjoy the province’s parks at no charge for entry.

Free programming planned
Park interpreters will offer free guided hikes, campfire talks, and other family-friendly programs throughout the long weekend and into the fall.
Program schedules are available through Manitoba Parks or at local campground offices.
While vehicle permits are free for the weekend, nightly camping fees still apply. Entrance fees also remain in effect at national parks.
Campers reminded about safety
The province is reminding campers to check in at campground offices when they arrive and follow any fire restrictions in place.
Campfires should never be left unattended. Visitors are also asked to keep campsites clean, secure food and other wildlife attractants, pack out garbage, and keep pets on a leash.
Backcountry hikers and paddlers can register their trips through a free voluntary online registration form. The registration can help park staff locate backcountry users during closures or emergencies, but the province says it does not replace leaving a trip plan with a trusted contact.
Firewood and watercraft precautions
Campers are also being reminded that transporting firewood outside of Winnipeg is prohibited because of the emerald ash borer.
Firewood can be purchased from local retailers at most campgrounds.
Watercraft users and beachgoers are encouraged to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species by cleaning, draining, and drying their watercraft and related equipment.
