Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada and her Ensemble Montréal party are planning to approve a zoning change on Tuesday evening to allow a 658-unit housing project that hundreds of Old Montreal residents blocked in a register earlier this year.
The project at 810 St-Antoine St. E., on the edge of Old Montreal, would reach up to 18 storeys on a site that’s currently zoned for six storeys and that currently serves as a parking lot behind historic Gare Viger.
In April, 425 residents signed a register forcing a referendum on the project by developers Broccolini and Pur Immobilia. The borough withdrew the project rather than hold a referendum.
