The Lindenwood women’s soccer team travels to Southern Illinois for their last of three consecutive away matches on Thursday. Kickoff against the Salukis is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Carbondale.
Lions Storylines
Lindenwood has gone 1-0-1 through the first two games of their current road trip, defeating Evansville 3-1 before playing Omaha to a scoreless draw.
Mackenzie Compton leads the Lions in points (7), goals (3), total shots (14), and shots on goal (4) through the season’s first five contests. Her three goals are most in the OVC while her seven points are tied for second most in the league.
Lindenwood is averaging 8.3 shots per game while allowing an average of 9.5 shots to their opponents.
The Lions are committing an average of just 5.33 fouls per game, which is tenth lowest in all of Division-I.
LU were selected as heavy preseason favorites in the Ohio Valley Conference’s preseason poll, receiving nine out of 16 potential first-place votes.

Last Time Out
Lindenwood played Omaha to a scoreless draw on the road Sunday morning. Scoring opportunities were limited, with a total of four shots on goal recorded in the match. Caroline Ritter made three saves in the match to secure her second shutout of the season and the 20th clean sheet of her career.
Player of the Week
Mackenzie Compton was named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a five-point performance against Evansville last Thursday. The junior forward registered two goals and one assist against the Purple Aces, leading the Lions to a 3-1 win on the road. It was the third multi-goal performance of Compton’s career, and her first since also recording two goals and an assist against Southeast Missouri on November 3rd, 2024.
About Southern Illinois
The Salukis possess a record of 2-2-0 following an 8-0 route of Alabama A&M on Sunday. SIU has scored 13 combined goals in their two wins, but have been shutout in both losses.
Nao Katamota has assisted on over half the team’s goals with seven total helpers while Penny Warner leads the squad with three goals.
All three of Warner’s goals were scored on Sunday for the program’s first hat trick since 2019, with the effort earning Missouri Valley Player of the Week honors.
SIU was picked to finish fifth in the MVC with defender Guliana Balistreri being named to the preseason All-Conference team.
Series History
Thursday will be the fifth all-time meeting between SIU and Lindenwood, with the Lions owning a 2-1-1 record in the series, including a 2-0 mark in Carbondale.
