It’s not so far away, is it? Texas is just 45 days from the beginning of the 2025 CFB season, where the Longhorns will head to Columbus, Ohio, to face the Ohio State Buckeyes in week 1. In that preparation, we’re checking in on every Longhorn grouped by jersey number.

During a battle at kicker between Bert Auburn and Will Stone in the spring, Texas brought in Mason Shipley from Texas State. The Longhorns topped Oklahoma, TCU, and UCF for Shipley’s services and his addition functions as an effort to shore up a part of Jeff Banks‘ third phase that was particularly weak last year.

Auburn has moved on and is at Miami while Stone remains on the roster. That said, Shipley is in his hometown (or close enough to it, he’s originally from Liberty Hill) to be the Longhorns’ kicker.

Shipley was 15-for-15 in 2023 and 15-for-19 in 2024. Shipley was 13-for-16 from 50 and in in 2024. He also has the capability to hit from 50 or further, nailing a 60 yarder in 2024.

While he may cede kickoff duties to Stone, Shipley will be asked to convert PATs and field goals for Texas this season.

No. 48 – Jackson Duffey

Duffey is a redshirt freshman walk-on defensive back from Smithson Valley who did not play in 2024.

No. 48 – Bryce Chambers

Chambers is a junior walk-on wide receiver from Westlake who has not seen game action.

No. 47 – Gehrig Heil

Heil is a freshman walk-on punter from Phoenix (Ariz.) Arcadia who averaged 46.3 yards per punt during his senior season. He was 38-for-43 on PATs and 7-for-13 on field goals.

Orogbo enrolled early as a lean, wiry EDGE with plus athleticism but with a significant amount of refinement needed for his game. He also needed to add weight as he was listed at 6-foot-4, 208 pounds on signing day.

Orogbo added the weight, jumping up to 222 pounds in the most recent roster update. He’ll likely need to add a bit more to be ready for significant action at Buck, and he’ll also need to work with LaAllan Clark to sharpen his technique. The future is bright for Orogbo, who was the No. 96 overall player in the 2025 class.
