Another park in Mississauga’s east end has reopened to the community with a new look and new amenities, the city says.
The playground replacement and other upgrades at Shelby Park have been completed, City of Mississauga Ward 3 Coun. Chris Fonseca told residents late this week.
The park, located north of Rathburn Road East between Cawthra and Tomken roads, is now “fully reopened,” the councillor said in a post to social media on Thursday.
“Be sure to stop by and check out the fantastic new space,” Fonseca added.
Work completed at the park includes:
Replacement of playground equipment.
Installation of engineered wood fibre safety surfacing.
Construction of paved trail connections and an accessible playground ramp.
Installation of new seating.
The project took longer than anticipated to complete due to delays related to pipeline permit approvals and additional site requirements, Fonseca said in an earlier notice to the community.
The park was initially scheduled to reopen the week of July 13.
While Shelby Park was closed for the upgrades, local residents used nearby Allison’s Park and Rathwood District Park as alternatives.

Just as the summer was getting underway, another park in the city’s east end, which has since been renamed, reopened after numerous upgrades were completerd.
Gulleden Park, located beside Burnhamthorpe Community Centre in the Dixie and Burnhamthorpe roads area of the city, reopened in June after being closed for nearly two years for a series of major upgrades and additions.
In late July, the park was renamed Ternopil Park in a move by the city to further strengthen its recently struck sister-city agreement with a major Ukrainian municipality.
The twinning pact between Mississauga and Ternopil, a city of some 225,000 people in western Ukraine, was signed in May.
Beyond an upgraded playground, that renovated park includes various other new and upgraded features, city officials say, including:
A refrigerated ice skating rink with summer programming options.
Two dedicated pickleball courts, a multi‑use court and two lit tennis courts.
A community spray pad and upgraded playground.
An accessible trail system to support walking, rolling and inclusive mobility.
An outdoor fitness area with equipment for all skill levels.
Junior skateboard features for beginners, including small ramps, rails and seat walls.
New tree planting and pollinator gardens to support environmental sustainability and habitat creation.
