There have been 300 vehicles reported stolen to Peel Regional Police over the last 31 days, with more than half of those pilfered vehicles being taken from owners in Mississauga.

The numbers come from the Peel police crime map, which tracks reported incidents of crime like assaults, drug trafficking and break-ins, and shows 300 a combined 300 vehicle thefts reported in both Mississauga and Brampton between Aug. 5 and Sept. 5.

Of those 300 reported incidents, 178 happened in Mississauga. Another 118 occurred in Brampton, while the remaining four vehicle thefts were not given a location on the map.

The map also identified “hot spots” in both cities, pointing to Toronto Pearson International Airport and the Square One shopping centre in Mississauga, and the area of Bovaird Drive and Highway 410 as locations with a higher number of reported vehicle thefts.

And while Mississauga tallied the highest number of stolen vehicles reported, Brampton saw more violent crimes, according to the data.

The map shows there were a combined 320 assaults reported in Mississauga and Brampton between Aug. 5 and Sept. 5, with 190 or more than 59 per cent of incidents occurring in Brampton. Another 127 (more than 39 per cent) of reported assaults happened in Mississauga, with the remaining three assaults not mapped.

There were also a combined 24 robberies reported across both cities. Six of those incidents were reported in Mississauga, while the remaining 18 occurred in Brampton, according to the data.

Robbery hot spots included the Bramalea City Centre area, downtown and the area of Steeles Avenue and Hurontario Street in Brampton, and the Erin Mills, Square One and Dundas Street and Dixie Road areas in Mississauga.
