Site Selection magazine praised Greater Sudbury’s economic competitiveness, investment attraction and business growth
Site Selection magazine has some nice things to say about Greater Sudbury.
In a recently published list of 20’s “Best Locations” in their September edition, the real estate magazine praised Greater Sudbury’s economic competitiveness, investment attraction and business growth.
“We are thrilled with this recognition from Site Selection and proud to see Greater Sudbury recognized among Canada’s best locations for investment and growth,” Mayor Paul Lefebvre said in a media release issued by the city.
“This honour reflects the momentum we are seeing across our community and the success of ongoing efforts to attract investment, support business expansion and create opportunities for residents throughout Greater Sudbury.”
The annual Canada’s Best Locations report celebrates communities that are achieving strong results in attracting investment, supporting business expansion and creating jobs.
Greater Sudbury is the only Northern Ontario municipality to be included in this year’s list.
“We are proud to see Greater Sudbury recognized on a national stage,” city Planning and Growth general manager Kris Longston said in the city’s media release.
“This achievement reflects the hard work of our Economic Development team in attracting investment and creating opportunities for business growth, as well as the dedication of our Planning and Building teams in streamlining development approvals to help projects move forward more efficiently. Together with our community partners, industry leaders and local businesses, these efforts are helping to build a strong and resilient economy and create the conditions for investment, innovation and long-term growth.”
The Site Selection article cites recent local achievements as being an $85-million maintenance, repair and overhaul facility by Sandvik and the $125-million Ontario Mine Rescue Training Academy, both of which are currently under construction.
It also flags the Kingston-Greater Sudbury Critical Minerals Alliance which will “strengthen Ontario’s critical minerals and advanced materials value chain,” and the fifth annual BEV In-Depth Conference at Cambrian College as being positive economic activities.
In 2025, the city recorded $597 million in construction permit value and issued permits for 625 new housing units.
